Queen for 15 minutes!

I had the opportunity to capture this little girl again just a few days ago. She wasn’t too interested in a photo session the last time they all came for a visit so we gave it another go. This time for she seemed very happy to be here, maybe it was the new “queens” chair that she got to sit in! Thanks for coming again guys. I’ll be in touch soon.

I’ve been tagged!

And you thought grown ups didn’t play tag?!!  I have been tagged by my good friend Stacy Nieuwenhuis (thanks Stace).  The rules are as follows:

RULES:

1. Link the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them & leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they have been tagged.

OK… So….. hmmmm…. I’m just not that quirky, how the heck am I going to do this?!!!

1.) I’m Canadian (not quirky at all)

2.) I have lived in four different countries (hardly quirky)

3.) I never ever have a drivers liscense.  I am CONSTANTLY losing it, since I was 16.  Very annoying (a littley quirky!)

4.) All day long I walk around with this kids song in my head.  The album is Choo Choo Soul and it has this great catchy song about chocolate.  “I like chocolate, mmmmm mmmmm” I’m singing it right now! Actually all the songs on the album are great!!  ( quite quirky)

5.) When I was 3 I sat on top of a great white shark that was on the beach.  I still remember the many rows of teeth when I peered my head into his mouth.  Gosh, I don’t think I’d ever let my kids do that even if he had been beached for awhile!  (quirky mom!)

6.)  Last one, phew.  Hmmmm…  Ah ha!  I know!  I have really crooked pinky fingers.  My Grandmother had them too.  She was so happy when she heard that I shared her trait.   I think of her sometimes when I look at them!

OK.  Now to tag some fellow bloggers.

Barbi Barnum

Jaqueline Nauyokas

Christy Doyea

Angie Nerhing

OK…that’s all I can come up with for now.  I still have to make school lunches, finish editing 3 sessions, get the studio ready for tomorrow and make coffee for the morning, it’s allready 10:51pm - ack!

Hold your little ones tightly

I feel like it has been ages since I have posted on the blog. I’ve missed it but been very busy with business stuff and LIFE. My oldest just started kindergarten last week. I thought I’d be fine when she got on the bus but I did end up getting teary and having to call the school to make sure she was actually there! When I picked her up from school, she promptly told me that she was now big enough to take the bus home! She then went on to rattle off all of the rules she had learned in school. I’m not sure I can remember them, but she sure could. How is it that she can’t remember the rules at home?!!  Some of the rules that she recited were; keep your hands to yourself, no pushing, pick stuff up off the floor, raise your hand if you make a mess, etc…. It kind of reminded me of a poem that we all know and love so well. I thought I’d share an exerpt of it with you all because it is so simple and true.

All I Really Need To Know
About How To Live and What To Do And How To Be, I learned in Kindergarten.

by Robert Fulghum

These are the things I learned:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don’t hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don’t take things that aren’t yours.
Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life–learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and
dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and
stick together.

And because a post is never quite complete with out photographs here are a few of my little (big) girl on her first day of kindy.  My favorite are the ones of her looking so small in the hallway.  I’m sure I will treasure these a few years down the road and she will seem oh so small.

Busy little session

What a busy little session we had on Friday. Just before I go out of town I wanted to share an image with you from our session. This is one of my favorite “poses” for an active baby. They are so happy to be upright and I swear especially in this case, they think they can walk! She was so sweet with no more than a peek during the whole session. I will post some more images with big brother too when I get back into town. Thanks for coming guys, I hope you had a great weekend.

A Sleepy Hollow Wedding

What an amazing day. The wedding day was so beautiful, bright blue sky, lots of sun, loving family all around, scrumptious food, a funny minister and a gorgeous setting…what more could you want? I feel so lucky to have been a part of such a wonderful occasion. Nate and Cally should just be getting back from their honeymoon. I hope you had a wonderful time. Here are some images from your special day. I took a ton so these are just the basics. The vows, the ring exchange, the newly weds, the cake and the beautiful place you chose to have your wedding. I’ll be in touch soon guys and hopefully I’ll be able to welcome you to the neighborhood as well!

A lovely senior session

I had such a special treat the other day, I had the opportunity to photograph a young lady for her senior portraits. She is from Virginia and is spending a couple of weeks up here in Vermont to get some R&R and to “get away from the humidity”! We went to my favorite spot and captured some beautiful images right before the sun set. My favorite part of the session was while we were at the waters edge on the rocky wall. She pulled out her guitar and sang a beautiful song while the sun set. It was a very serene moment, I hope I was able to capture this feeling in the images. Miss. Olivia, I had so much fun photographing you. Thank you. I wish you the best of luck in this next year and hope all your dreams come true.

Behold the power of bubbles!

All kids love bubbles, bar none! We like to use them in the studio for this age especially… the little ones look at them like they are just magical. This little boy (and his big sister) absolutely loved them. You may recognize Little Man E. as he is one of our baby planners. I have been documenting his chubby little thighs since the time he was in his momma’s belly. I just love the way he gets chubbier and chubbier each time I see him. He now has a new skill…..sitting (and standing, and rolling, and catching bubbles)!!! Great job big guy, just wait for what’s to come. I can’t wait to see you for our next visit.

My day on Thursday…

Yesterday I had a session that rescheduled so I decided to take some time to scout out a local area for a senior session that I have coming up. I had heard that Bolton has some waterfalls…namely called Bolton Potholes. I set out with directions that I found off a website and of course had some trouble finding it. I did end up finding something that resembled some waterfalls, it was pretty but was quite hard to get to. Along the way I stumbled across a funny little house. Abandoned but seemed like it was used every once in awhile. It kind of reminded me of the little house in LOST - do you know the one?!! On the way back into town I saw a really cool building with the sign “indoor flea market”. Hmmmm, sounds interesting. Inside there was huge amounts of old tools, dolls, bottles, wedding china, you name it. I could have stayed there forever. I ended up getting a really cool old trunk that I will use in the studio, a scythe for my husband (don’t ask!), and some small bottles. When the trek was over, I gave my girls their bottles and they did exactly what I thought they would do with them - they are so predictable sometimes…picture below. OK, back to editing!

They all love the pettiskirts!

Over the weekend I had a really busy session with this smiley little four (and a half) year old, her little 15 month old sister and mom and dad. Big sister loved to have her picture taken but I can’t say the same for the little one, she was too busy to be paying attention to me! I’m working on the session currently but thought I’d share this of big sis. Isn’t she a cutie?

A bridal slideshow

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing a soon-to-be bride (this weekend actually, pray for no rain!). She is such a pleasure to work with since she’s so friendly, very accomodating and did everything I asked her to do!!! I don’t know of many brides willing to hop over a brick wall or sit on an old wooden fence. Thank you for being such the perfect model. I am so excited to photograph your wedding this weekend. Here is a slideshow that showcases Cally and the beautiful location of Shelburne Farms Inn. Give it just a minute to load, click on the arrow and turn up your speakers to listen to the music.
